The Importance of Time Management
How good are you when it comes to managing your time? This is one trait that distinguishes an average sales person to a great one. They know what items they should be spending their time on and plan accordingly.
Being a sales person entails two main things, you are selling a product or service for your company, but you are also selling yourself. This last point is important and is one that is often overlooked.
We suggest that you take the time to start working on building relationships with people and putting yourself into a key position. Your end goal should be to become the go to person in your industry. If you sell golf equipment you want to become known as the person who can get the latest technology and one who can answer questions on all subjects pertaining to golf.
Of course, this will take time to achieve. But if you are serious about becoming an epic sales person the effort will be well worth it.
When it comes to time management you want to put aside enough time to market yourself. This can be done by using a calendar and setting an appointment for your own marketing.
You don’t need lots of time just 10 or 15 minutes each day. Once scheduled you want to use your time wisely. Think of how you can market yourself to the greatest amount of people. This can be done using social sites and posting informative tips and advice about your industry.
As well as scheduling time to market yourself, plan out all of your activities and then mark them into your calendar. You will no doubt see a certain set of activities appear that you do on a regular basis. You may want to condense them into one action that takes less time.
By this we mean if you write posts on Facebook or Google+ you may want to do this by scheduling out posts for a couple of weeks at a time. So instead of spending 15 minutes a day you end up spending 2 hours once a month.
See what other activities you do that could be handled in the same way. Can you adopt a better way of scheduling out your appointments, or of following up with your emails. You may find it helpful to create email templates that you can quickly customize for each client.
By freeing up your time and using it in a smart fashion you will end up being more productive overall.
