Family Friendly Careers

Discipline That Lasts A Lifetime by Dr. Ray Guarendi

Many parents work outside the home, both out of necessity and desire. It is a blessing to be able to work and raise children. Along with the challenges, there are many rewards. In modern times, people’s places of work are becoming more and more accommodating to parents.

There are some careers that lend themselves to working while parenting children, even young ones. Here are a few careers that have one or more aspects that work well with the challenge of parenting while simultaneously supporting your children.

Account Manager

Although this is a very demanding job, there is a certain amount of flexibility with it. Being a liaison between client and company, there is sometimes the opportunity to work from home. An account manager needs knowledge of their company, good communication skills, and superior organization skills. Being able to arrange meetings around your child’s schedule is an aspect that deserves consideration, and speaking with your manager about this type of arrangement is worthwhile.

Real Estate Broker

A real estate broker is an individual who has taken the training necessary to be able to practice as a real estate agent, but with the added benefit of being able to run their own brokerage firm and employ others under them. There is extra training and coursework required for a broker as opposed to an agent, but the payoff is in the potential flexibility of the job. Whether you prefer to work alone or hire others is your choice.

Blogger

Blogging has grown extremely popular in recent years. Blogging is essentially writing a journal online, with regular updates. There are blogs in basically any topic you could imagine, and there is potential for blogs to gain followers in almost any area.

Many visionaries will create their own blogs and still never grow to a point where they are earning sufficient income. But occasionally someone’s writing style will catch on, appeal to many people, and become popular overnight. Some bloggers write e-books as their main source of income, some promote themselves as speakers, and some sell advertising. If you communicate well and you think blogging may be something you enjoy, do a bit of research on how you can make money from your endeavours.

School Teacher

If you love children and are great at communicating, a school teacher may be a good career choice for you. Your job will require you to be gone similar hours as your children, which can help you maximize the amount of time you can spend with them. Knowing that you can spend evenings, weekends, and summer holidays with your little ones makes this career very enticing for a parent.

Web Design

For those who are knowledgeable about computers and the internet, web design can be a profitable business. Creating websites for others is something you can do while working under someone else, or being self-employed. Self-employment in this area comes with the ability to set your own hours according to what suits you and your family life.

Being a parent and holding down a job is not an easy task. There are, however, many ways to make it happen. With a little creativity and a lot of sweat, you can make it work for you.
